Persimmon Hollow Brewing Co. - The Lake Eola Taproom

A Look Back: Our "Get Weird" Vegan Brunch Review at Persimmon Hollow Lake Eola

January 3, 2022

When thinking of local brunch options a brewery isn’t usually the first thing that comes to mind for us. But our mind has been changed big time. Recently we joined some foodie friends to experience an awesome collaborative event by Persimmon Hollow Brewing Co. and The Dinner Party Project to try some new vegan brunch options as well as a selection of local brews. Read on for all the details…

About Persimmon Hollow Brewing Co.

Two guys who love to laugh and get a little weird, Robbie and Andy met in 2011 and quickly realized a mutual passion for beer, food, fun, and friendship. What began as a weekend hobby for the two grew quickly with medals won and friends clamoring to try their brews, and before long the seeds of Persimmon Hollow Brewing had been sown. Those seeds grew, and their dream became a reality in 2014 with the opening of the original brewery and taproom in DeLand, FL.

Since the founding, Robbie and Andy’s passion to share Persimmon Hollow’s sense of fun,  community, and purpose has driven them to open a growing network of neighborhood brewpubs, each with its own identity, but each uniquely Persimmon Hollow Brewing. Every pint or plate that is shared and the smiles and laughter that accompany them are the fabric of the company motto, “Drink Sensibly, But Get Weird”.

About The Dinner Party Project

Our event was planned and beautiful tables set by The Dinner Part Project, a local special events company that connects Orlandoans over great food & interesting conversation. With humble beginnings, The Dinner Party Project simply started as a gathering of friends, new and old, at founder Dana Marie Roquemore's home. Through word of mouth and social media, The Dinner Party Project has quickly become one of Orlando's favorite ways to connect with other Orlandoans, in a hip setting both with great food (often provided by locally artisans) and fantastic conversation. While the TDPP brand has grown, each dinner maintains its original intimacy & character—with only 8 guests being selected at random to attend.

The Get Weird Brunch Menu

When you typically think of brewery food, we are sure “bar food” comes to mind. Persimmon Hollow has flipped that idea on it’s head with an onsite chef developing a variety of upscale dishes. With toasts, sandwiches, shareable and more the brunch menu is quite impressive. Another interesting twist is how many items are vegan friendly. The menu base mostly starts vegan with the option to add meat. Brunch is available on Saturdays and Sundays from 11am-4pm. Read on to learn more about the dishes and drinks we tried…

Gypsy Hiker (Lake Eola Exclusive) “Beermosa”
IPA - New England / Hazy (6.3% ABV)
with champagne and vanilla pear syrup

We started our meal with “Beermosas.” This delightful drink was made with champagne, beer, and syrup. Such a unique twist on a traditional mimosa and it was quite delicious.

Breakfast Street Tacos $15
Three flour tortillas served with beyond crumble, roasted corn and avocado pico, shredded lettuce, goat cheese and homemade hot sauce.

paired with Daytona Dirty Blonde
Blonde Ale (4.1% ABV)

These tacos were really good, honestly couldn’t even tell it was vegan meat. The toppings were a nice variety of textures, flavors, and spice. The Daytona Dirty Blonde is a top seller and for good reason, it’s a great go-to lighter beer that is perfect for any occasion. (we have certainly enjoyed this one while golfing before!)

Beach Hippie Bytes $12
Flatbread strips, orange marmalade, mozzarella, parmesan cheese, pickled jalapeño. Served with house-made ranch.

paired with Beach Hippie Beer
IPA - American (7.1% ABV)

This flatbread was probably our favorite event of the meal. The sweet of the marmalade with the spice of jalapeño was perfect. And you could tell the flatbread was freshly baked. The dressing on the side was the perfect touch we didn’t know we needed. The Beach Hippie Beer was a smooth IPA that wasn’t too hoppy.

Hollow-Toaster-Fest $12
Challah french toast served with a trio of dips (local cane, thai chill, orange marmalade)

paired with Hollowoctoberfest
Lager - Märzen style (5.7% ABV)

We love challah bread for french toast and this dish was interesting to come with a dip trio instead of just syrup. It was fun to try the different styles of sauces. And the Hollowoctoberfest was a great Fall/Winter beer.

Avocado Toast - Bougie Style $11
Caprese style with mozzarella, tomatoes, and balsamic drizzle.

paired with Stranger Danger Bunny (Lake Eola Exclusive)
IPA - Imperial/Double (10.5% ABV)

While the basic toast ($9) is simple avocado and seasoning, the Bougie toast kicks it up with extra toppings. Julie loved the fresh tomatoes and cheese with the kick of balsamic. Yum. The Danger Bunny was strong and flavorful, it was fun to try and we liked it, but personally we tend to stick to less potent beers.

During our visit we also got a peek behind the scenes and learned a bit about their brewing operation. Andrew also spotted a brew he had to try:

3 Wise Guys
Porter - American (6.6% ABV)

This was his fave beer of the day with this porter having coffee flavors. It was a great mix of beer and coffee and we think a perfect option for brunch!

Final Thoughts

What a fun twist on brunch. We were blown away by the unique food options available at a brewery. It’s good to know that in addition to great beer options Persimmon Hollow has some serious foodie skills too. While we don’t typically stick to vegan options it was nice to know that this menu is available for those who do (and there is always the option to add meat as well). While everything tasted great, for us personally between the bread-y dishes and beer it was a lot of carbs to start the day, we would make sure to order a little more protein next time to balance that out. But we were thrilled to spend a lovely morning with fellow foodie friends. Thank you to Persimmon Hollow Brewing Co. and The Dinner Party Project for a wonderful event. (And thank you Yadia for the invite!)
