Coopers' Craft & Fondue Recipes: A Fireside Date Night for Two

April 9, 2021

(This content is intended for 21+ only. Please drink responsibly. This article is a paid partnership with Coopers’ Craft. All thoughts are our own.)

With spending a lot of time at home this past year have you been looking for more out of the box ideas for a date night in? We know we have been! It was the perfect time for an invite from The Blogger Union to attend a Zoom party for bourbon tasting and fondue making. With two amazing things involved like Bourbon and Cheese, of course we said yes! Coopers’ Craft Bourbon and the cheese-wizards over at Di Bruno Bros. partnered to present a fun, virtual event: Fireside Fondue with Coopers’ Craft. It was the perfect excuse to learn some new culinary tricks and have a date night at home that was a little more creative than watching Disney+ all night. Read on to hear all the details and recipe how to’s…

Preparing for Fireside Fondue for Two

The awesome folks at Cooper’s Craft sent us just about everything we needed ahead of our fondue night. We received some magic mail that included all sorts of goodies:

  • A bottle of Coopers’ Craft Original

  • Bundaberg Ginger Beer

  • A drink mixer and bar accessories

  • A custom charcuterie board

  • A Boska Fondue pot

  • A gift box of gourmet food from Di Bruno Bros.

We also needed to gather a few items from around the kitchen and the store:

  • Ice

  • Limes

  • Mint

  • Favorite berries or fruit

  • Juicer

  • Knife

  • Matches or lighter (for the sterno)

  • White wine for fondue recipe

  • Measuring spoons

  • Measuring cups

  • Bowl

  • A cheese grater

  • Whisk

Coopers’ Craft Goodies.

Thank you Coopers’ Craft for all these goodies.

The Blogger Party

We joined a group of other bloggers from The Blogger Union for a virtual Zoom party. It was fun to cook with people all over the US. Coopers’ Craft Brand Ambassador, Fitz Bailey, led us in a Bourbon tasting and a step by step of how to make a Cooper’s Cup Cocktail (full recipe below). We really enjoyed trying this new to us Bourbon. Coopers’ Craft Original is bottled at 82.2 proof for a gentle flavor profile that is well-balanced through the smooth finish and we found it had a lot of notes of apple, honey. The cocktail was super easy to make and refreshing, definitely going to be added to our list of go to drinks to make at home!

As we sipped our cocktails there was a special appearance by Chef Ashley Thomas to teach us the art of making cheese fondue. Now while we are very familiar with cheese fondue (Julie’s family cooks it every Christmas eve), we had always used pre packaged cheese and had never made it from scratch. With the Chef’s step by step tips we were able to learn how easy it actually is (and the gourmet ingredients and high quality pot made it even better). We also realized using a pot with Sterno (instead of our usual electric) makes Fondue a portable meal. We realized there are some fun possibilities to dine outside with friends or even take Fondue into the great outdoors.

We loved tasting this smooth Coopers’ Craft Bourbon.

The Recipes

Cooper’s Cup Cocktail

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 parts Coopers’ Craft Original 82.2

  • 1 part fresh Lime Juice

  • Top with ginger beer

  • Lime and/or mint sprig for garnish

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Add one jigger of Combine Coopers’ Craft 82.2 to a mixer.

  2. Add a small can of ginger beer.

  3. Squeeze a few wedges of lime juice in.

  4. Shake and our over ice in a mug/highball and garnish.

TIP: To add your own personal signature touch to the cocktail take a muddler and a few pieces of your favorite seasonal fruit. Berries are ready to go but make sure you skin citrus, pomes, and stonefruit. Stonefruit should also be pitted prior to use. (We tried blueberries and raspberries!)

Di Bruno Bros. & Coopers’ Craft Bourbon Cheese Fondue

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1/2 lb. Reading Raclette

  • 1/2 lb. Seven Sisters

  • 1/2 lb. Cabot Cloth Bound Cheddar

  • 2 tbs Cornstarch

  • 1 cup Dry White Wine

  • 1/2 cup Coopers’ Craft Original 82.2

  • Few Drops of Pickle Juice (we used Brine Street Yards IPA Spears)

  • 1 tsp. Mustard (we used Edmond Fallot Dijon)

  • Black Pepper

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Set up the fondue pot. Light the sterno to get the pot warming.

  2. Add the wine and half the Bourbon to the pot.

  3. While the liquid is warming, grate the three cheeses into a large bowl. Add the cornstarch and “massage” lightly into the cheese.

  4. Slowly add the cheese to the pot stirring with a wisk. The cheese should thicken and smooth out as you go.

  5. As it thickens add the mustard, pickle juice, black pepper add then the remaining bourbon.

TIP: If your mixture seems too liquid keep adding more cheese, you can also try a little more cornstarch too.

We started warming the wine while we prepped the cheese.

Our Fondue Date Night

After our fun Zoom party we were ready to now enjoy our new recipes just the two of us. It was fun to enjoy a couple cocktails together and sample the cheese with different pairings. Previously we had always made classic Gruyère with wine. Incorporating this new blend of cheeses and bourbon was something we would have never thought of but loved it. The mix of all the flavors made for a delicious cheese to pair with some great cut up items to dip such as:

  • French baguette

  • Di Bruno Bros. Rosemary Crostini

  • Di Bruno Bros. Mild Soppressata

  • Brine Street Yards IPA Spears

  • A Granny Smith Apple

This pot of cheese with all the dippables was plenty for the 2 of us. We even had some leftover to enjoy the next day too. We love that Fondue is a very interactive and social meal, and while we were craving some romantic two-some time on this occasion this idea would work great with a small group of friends or family too. We can’t wait to remake this recipe again and share with Julie’s fondue loving family!

Everyone dreams about moving to their happy place whether it be the country, the mountains, or, in our case, near the house of the mouse. Last year we were able to make our dreams a reality and left Maryland to start a new chapter in Orlando. It’s hard to believe it, but we have now been Floridians for one year! We wanted to take a look back at this last year and chat about:

  • How we pulled off a big cross country move last year

  • What we are loving and missing now being in FL

  • A peek into our home (with several before and after projects!)

  • and finally, how our Disney habits have changed now being locals

Life, Home

Hi friends! Sorry we have been a bit M.I.A., the last several weeks have certainly been a whirlwind. It has been quite the adventure to sell a house in one state, find a new home in another, then pack up everything (including three cats!) to travel almost 1,000 miles. But even with the craziness we have been super excited to move to our new “castle” so close to the Mouse. It has always been a dream to “one day” leave the area and try somewhere new. When the opportunity came to head to Orlando we thought that sounded pretty perfect for us. So while change can be scary and stressful we know this new adventure will strenghten us and bring up all sorts of new opportunities in the future…

When we heard that Disney was creating a new collection with Ethan Allen we were excited to see what classic design items would be developed. The new collection launched on Mickey Mouse's birthday: November 18th. We stopped by our local store to see some pieces in person. The first question we were asked was "Are you decorating a kids room?" which made us wonder if it was all childish...

Update: Why We Changed Our Name to The Orlando DINKs

Yup, you read that correctly, after 6 years of being known as The Disney DINKs, we are officially changing our name to The Orlando DINKs.

While changing one word doesn’t seem like a huge change, it feels pretty huge to us since this has been our identity for so long. There are a few reasons why we decided to make the change, some of which are directly related to Disney and some that aren’t. Before we really get into it, we want to be very clear that this article isn’t an intent to bash Disney by any means. We have had amazing experiences related to Disney, from our wedding, multiple Anniversary trips on both coasts, and Disneyland Paris. Being Disney Vacation Club members has allowed us to experience some amazing destinations including Hawaii, Hilton Head Island, and Vero Beach. None of these would have been possible without DVC. We have also had the pleasure of sharing these experiences with friends and family throughout the years. So while it may seem like we are quitting Disney, we certainly are not (and please note we are even keeping our fun mouse ear branding!) Read on to learn more…

Setting Sail on a Disney Specialty Cruise with a Private Fireworks View

With the July 4th fireworks at Walt Disney World canceled this year, we figured it was the perfect time to reminisce about a special fireworks experience we had last fall. We are always amazed at the amount of special activities and tours available at Disney and booking a private specialty fireworks cruise was one awesome time. Technically our friends Max and Niki had booked the experience for their honeymoon, but they let us crash the party and come along (how nice are they right?). One night last fall our group of four enjoyed some drinks at the Top of the World then set sail on our private pontoon. Read on to hear all about our enchanted evening sailing.

If you have read some of our resort reviews before, you may have figured out that we are Disney Vacation Club (DVC) members. We have been blue card holders since 2013 and have used our membership in various ways. We find that we get a lot of questions about DVC, with the most frequent being “Is DVC worth it?” It can be a bit confusing at first to figure out how the membership exactly works so we wanted to break it down for our readers. Our Story: Why We Started The Disney DINKs Blog (Dual Income, No Kids & Disney Travel!)

We were recently asked to participate in a “Disney Friends Blog Hop” for people to discover other Disney blogs in the community. (You can learn a little more about that at the the bottom of this post!) We also realized with many new visitors recently it may be a good time to share a bit more about the two authors behind the posts. There are two things we tend to get asked pretty frequently. Many people are curious of how we decided to launch a Disney based blog geared towards an adult crowd. Many people are also curious about the term “DINKs” (Dual Income No Kids) and we wanted to touch a bit on our journey to decide to be childfree. So here is a little peek into the world of Julie and Andrew…
