Our Polite Pig Review: A Look Back at the Build Your Own Old Fashioned Menu!

September 1, 2021

Last night we were invited to a preview event at The Polite Pig in Disney Springs. We joined some other blogger friends to mingle over nibbles and try the brand new Build Your Own Old Fashioned Menu. This new offering officially launched today and we have all the details…

About The Polite Pig

The Polite Pig is a quick-service restaurnat and bar owned by area culinary legends James, Julie, and Brian Petrakis (Disney Springs' only local chef presence). They feature a variety of wood-fired smoked and grilled items, Florida craft beers, drinks on tap and a bourbon bar featuring over 60+ selections. The menu is inspired by the best seasonal food that Florida has to offer, bringing new twists to local flavors and BBQ.

Shareable Starters

To prime our bellies for some drinks ahead The Polite Pig staff served an assortment of delicious dishes. (Note: some things were cut to sample size and may appear differently when ordered normally). We sampled items such as:

SHAREABLE: Hop Salt Pretzel $9.00
with beer cheese fondue & ipa mustard

This was a great app to share. The pretzel is a large size. And the cheese dip is dangerously good. We tried the mustard too which was good, but let’s be honest cheese always wins.

SHAREABLE: Spiced Pork Rinds $9
pimento cheese dip

This was a good snack if looking for a salty chip and dip kind of app. Hard to compare to the pretzel above though!

SANDWICH: Southern Pig $13
pulled pork, fennel-apple slaw, tangy mustard bbq, duke's mayo

Julie loves a pulled pork sandwich and this one was delicious. The flavors of all the toppings made this a stand-out.

SANDWICH: Low & Slow Brisket $14
prime brisket, pimento cheese, porter bbq, pickled jalapeños, onion straw

Andrew’s fave sandwich of the night was this tender meat with tasty toppings.

SANDWICH: Fried Chicken $13
sweet & spicy bbq, duke's mayo, pickles, coleslaw

We both also enjoyed this different twist on a crispy chicken. The meat was coated in a flavorful sauce. So messy but so good.

(All three sandwiches are available together as sliders for $16 too!)

The (New) Old Fashioned Menu

Now while The Polite Pig is not new to Bourbon drinks, the idea of a craft your own cocktail menu is! It’s easy to create your your own with three simple steps:

  1. Select your Bourbon:

    • Blade & Bow

    • George Dickel No12

    • Bulleit

  2. Choose a Bitters:

    • Aromatic

    • Citrus

    • Orange

    • Mexican Chocolate

    • Ginger

    • Peach

  3. Add a Garnish:

    • Orange Peel

    • Lemon Peel

    • Brandied Cherry

    • Candied Ginger

    • or you can even add a cool Smoke Bubble!

While we enjoy Bourbon drinks fairly often, at first we were stumped at what to pick. The good news is the bartenders were happy to assist with ideas for combinations. We settled on these combinations…

Andrew: Bulleit Bourbon, Orange Bitters, and an orange peel

Julie: Blade & Bow Bourbon, Peach Bitters, and candied ginger

And we have to say both combinations were awesome! We each enjoyed our drinks and look forward to trying some more combinations next time. While this menu just officially launched today it sounds like there are plans to keep evolving the menu to include special seasonal offerings too.

A big thank you to The Polite Pig for hosting us for the evening. And a shout out to Matt from Diageo for educating us on the Bourbon Brands! We can’t wait to come back and enjoy more drinks soon.
