Liberty Tree Tavern

Liberty Tree Tavern Dining Review: Beyond the Thanksgiving Feast

March 13, 2020

This past Christmas we tried something new and booked a visit to Disney’s Magic Kingdom on Christmas Day (make sure to check out our recap article on 5 lessons learned). We knew we wanted a cozy holiday meal, and decided to book a mid-day reservation at Liberty Tree Tavern. This colonial-style table service restaurant is known best for family-style Thanksgiving meals. More recently they have also added some a la carte options too which we decided to explore this time. Read on to hear about this hearty dining option…

About Liberty Tree Tavern

Theming

Liberty Tree Tavern is located in Liberty Square and is themed to be reminiscent of Colonial Williamsburg. The building features rich wood paneling, candelabra chandeliers and large brick fireplaces. The dining rooms are small and rustic and the cast members don Colonial outfits. The walls are lined with period portraits and curios and each of the six rooms commemorate a pivotal figure in U.S. history. We were sat in the George Washington room had a nice corner booth next to a fireplace.

Price

Most people choose the $39 all-you-care-to-enjoy option on the menu with dishes such as turkey, pot roast, and traditional sides. It is family style, meaning a plate or bowl with multiple servings is brought to the table to serve everyone. If there are any dishes that you would like refilled you can simply ask. The menu also features a la carte options that add up to approximately the same price if choosing a starter, main, and dessert. If using the dining plan this restaurant counts as one table meal credit.

The Food

On this particular visit to Liberty Tree Tavern we decided instead of the standard feast, to instead explore different option on the full Lunch Menu instead. (You can see the full menu pictured below.) Since we were on the dining plan we were each also able to order a beverage. Since it was Christmas we went with some champagne. We were pleasantly surprised that one of of favorites — Iron Horse Fairy Tale Cuvee — was included since it was $22 a glass!

The theming was quite patriotic.

Liberty Tree Tavern Menu Part 2 (Click to enlarge)

Starter: Vermont Cheese Plate $14.00
Selection of Vermont Cheeses with Traditional Accompaniments

Julie was excited to see a cheese plate on the menu. This features an assortment of American cheese such as Vermont Cheddar and selections from Wisconsin. The plate included some nice accompaniments and was a generous portion overall.

Liberty Tree Tavern

Starter: Lobster Fritters $14.00
Fried Lobster and Sweet Corn Fritters with Grilled Lemon Aïoli

Andrew loves seafood and decided to try these fritters. We were surprised by the size of this portion too. There was certainly more corn than lobster inside but the flavor was good. The Aioli was delicious and the perfect addition.

Liberty Tree Tavern

Main: The Pilgrim's Feast $24.00
Carved Turkey Breast with Mashed Potatoes, Green Beans, Cranberry Sauce, Herb Stuffing, and Turkey Gravy

Since it was Christmas, Julie stuck with a holiday meal. This feast plate featured only some of the offerings from the full feast but it was still a perfect tractional variety. The turkey here is always good, honestly the next best thing to a real home cooked one. And the sides were good and plentiful as well.

Liberty Tree Tavern

Main: The BELL Burger $26.00
Applewood-smoked Bacon, Cheddar, Poached Egg, Lettuce, and Lobster

Andrew was excited to order this burger that featured lobster. We are sad to admit that it was the least impressive thing we ordered. While the burger did feature some lobster and a good sauce the actual burger and bun was pretty blah. The fries were just ok too.

Liberty Tree Tavern

Dessert: Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake $10.00
Vanilla Toffee Cake, Chocolate Sauce, and Vanilla Ice Cream

This dessert is always a favorite. Warm cake topped with ice cream. Crunchy and gooey it is so yummy.

Liberty Tree Tavern

Dessert: Boston Cream Pie $10.00
Vanilla Cake dipped in Chocolate and filled with Pastry Cream

This dessert was pretty good. Similar to a Boston Cream donut.

Liberty Tree Tavern

The Service

Being Christmas Day things were somewhat slow, but we have to say the service was really great. Our server was working hard and we appreciated it. Our drinks came later than our starters and he profusely apologized, we seriously weren’t even worried about it. He even gave us a collectible Liberty Tree Tavern mug to thank us for our patience. We felt very well taken care of and gave a nice big tip. It seems many of the CMs here have been at this location for awhile and provide excellent service.

Liberty Tree Tavern

Final Thoughts

It was fun to try a slightly different side of Liberty Tree Tavern. It is nice to have some variety and know that if someone in your party doesn’t want the standard fare they can try something different (even a nice salad if they want!) Andrew feels that in the future he will be more likely to order the standard feast as he didn’t love the burger and thinks the Thanksgiving meal is more of what you go here for. Julie is still a fan of the a la carte. Being able to have a cheese platter and some turkey is the best of both worlds!

Cheers to No Hangovers! Disney Cruise Line's NEW Zero Proof Mocktail Menus Revealed

When sailing away on a cruise vacation many people envision kicking back with a frozen drink in hand as the ultimate picture of relaxation. But these days more and more people are choosing to forgo the fully loaded libations for one reason or another. While we have enjoyed many cocktails on Disney ships over the years, lately in our everyday lives we have been finding ourselves choosing more and more mocktails for a healthier balance. But we were ecstatic to learn that Disney Cruise Line had just soft launched a brand new “Zero Proof Cocktails” menu featuring an array of elevated craft mocktails…

Star Wars Day at Sea on the Disney Fantasy (2021 Review): Was the Force Strong?
Cruise, Foods & Drinks

As we approached the main lobby of the Disney Fantasy, we could feel the excitement building in the crowd. The usually bright, multilevel atrium we’d come to recognize had been transformed. Long banners with Galactic insignia hung from above, and red light permeated the space. A familiar melody started to play—the Imperial March—as Stormtroopers armed with blasters lined up to announce the arrival of their leader. The iconic breathing echoed through the air as Darth Vader took his place front and center. “We have intercepted a transmission sent from this area by a rebel spy,” he warned. “Anyone with ties to the Rebel Alliance will be considered a traitor.” It was official. Imperial Troops had infiltrated our ship, and for the next 24 hours, they were on the hunt for rebel spies. Read on to learn more about our Star Wars Day at Sea aboard Disney Cruise Lines…

Update: Why We Changed Our Name to The Orlando DINKs

Yup, you read that correctly, after 6 years of being known as The Disney DINKs, we are officially changing our name to The Orlando DINKs.

While changing one word doesn’t seem like a huge change, it feels pretty huge to us since this has been our identity for so long. There are a few reasons why we decided to make the change, some of which are directly related to Disney and some that aren’t. Before we really get into it, we want to be very clear that this article isn’t an intent to bash Disney by any means. We have had amazing experiences related to Disney, from our wedding, multiple Anniversary trips on both coasts, and Disneyland Paris. Being Disney Vacation Club members has allowed us to experience some amazing destinations including Hawaii, Hilton Head Island, and Vero Beach. None of these would have been possible without DVC. We have also had the pleasure of sharing these experiences with friends and family throughout the years. So while it may seem like we are quitting Disney, we certainly are not (and please note we are even keeping our fun mouse ear branding!) Read on to learn more…
