So you have probably been wondering why we have been M.I.A. the last couple weeks. Well you know how life likes to throw you fun little challenges from time to time? I guess we were due. Our washing machine decided to completely malfunction and start leaking water all over the laundry room floor. And then under the floor. And then continue into the next room. When we stepped on the floor planks and saw water bubbling up between all we could think was "Oh boy..."
Now this was not quite as dramatic as the Winnie the Pooh image above. And luckily we caught it in time to move our stuff out of the way from being ruined. However the damage did require mitigation, completely new flooring and some other work in the basement. So needless to say it has been a whirlwind of cleaning, organizing, insurance claims, contractors, mitigation, and rebuild. On top of that it has been a busy couple weeks with other fun life things like work and taxes (bleh!). Can we say "Yay for adult-ing!"?
Even with things being a little crazy it has been a good opportunity to change up the basement. We were able to pick out a new floor. We went with a laminate from Mohawk called "Grey Flannel Oak" that was a lighter grey with wood-like texture. And now it continues through the laundry room for a cohesive look instead of that construction grade linoleum that used to be in there. We picked out a new wall paint from Behr called "Moth Grey". The name sounds gross but the color is great. The grey tones have a bit of a brown to them to warm up the neutral space. We also have been updating all the trim and doors with a bright white to freshen it up.
So sometimes little bad things can work out to be pretty good. All in all this will be a nice change with some benefits. Julie will be moving her work space down to the new basement and is excited to get it designed with new office furniture and decor. And Andrew can't wait to go do some laundry...

Everyone dreams about moving to their happy place whether it be the country, the mountains, or, in our case, near the house of the mouse. Last year we were able to make our dreams a reality and left Maryland to start a new chapter in Orlando. It’s hard to believe it, but we have now been Floridians for one year! We wanted to take a look back at this last year and chat about:
How we pulled off a big cross country move last year
What we are loving and missing now being in FL
A peek into our home (with several before and after projects!)
and finally, how our Disney habits have changed now being locals
